The Western Fire & Forest Resilience Collaborative Seeks Postdoctoral Associates

We seek postdoctoral associates to join the Western Fire & Forest Resilience Collaborative. The Collaborative is engaging 10 science teams and an array of decision makers to co-create and implement a research program that will ensure predictive science of fire ecology and forest resilience can support effective strategies for the wildfire crisis.

Details:

  • Forest Futures Lab, Dr. Winslow Hansen

Cary Institute of Ecosystem Studies, Millbrook, New York. Option for hybrid attendance

The postdoctoral associate will be responsible for working with a team to project how management strategies, climate change, and wildfires will shape western forests over the next century with state-of-the-art simulation models and/or AI. The successful candidate will find ample opportunities for leadership and to pursue their own ideas.

Qualifications: Did you know most successful candidates do not meet all qualifications? If you have some of these skills, please consider applying.

Applicants must have completed a Ph.D. in forest ecology, disturbance ecology, ecosystem modeling, AI, or a related field prior to appointment. The ideal candidate will have experience with ecosystem, landscape, or Earth-system simulation or expertise in applying deep learning techniques to ecological data. Candidates who are excited by team science and who have excellent written and oral communication skills preferred.

Compensation: Annual salary ranges depending on experience and work site. Inquire for details. This is a full-time, exempt, benefitted position for one-two years, renewable contingent upon successful performance. Postdoctoral Researchers

I am excited to collaborate with postdoctoral researchers. If advertised positions are available, they will appear below. However, there are many external postdoctoral fellowships that could facilitate working together. Examples include the Smith Postdoctoral Fellowship, NSF Postdoctoral Fellowships, and SESYNC Fellowships. If interested, please contact me with ideas and we can chat.

Graduate Students

Cary Institute of Ecosystem Studies is not a degree granting institution. However, many opportunities exist to conduct research in the lab. For graduate students, I am excited to work with you on your graduate research if our interests overlap. Please get in contact if you have ideas.
